Welcoming a Bigger and Better Indonesia International Motor Show (IIMS) in 2014
JAKARTA, INDONESIA, Sep 30, 2013 - (ACN Newswire) - The biggest automotive exhibition in Indonesia, The Indonesia International Motor Show (IIMS), an annual event for the country's auto industry, is the window that depicts the development of Indonesia's automotive industry. Year after year, IIMS has captured the attention of major players in the industry, local and international, as reflected by the enhancements in the exhibition each year. Every year, participants of IIMS, as the biggest auto show in South East Asia, keep on increasing.
In IIMS 2009, there were only 21 brands participating in the exhibition while this year, the number grew to 38 participants consisting of 29 passenger car brands, and 9 commercial vehicle brands. Besides the increasing support from sole agents (APM), the automotive supporting industries also showed similar positive support toward IIMS. This year, there were 276 automotive supporting industries participating in the exhibition, which is a significant increase compared to IIMS 2009 with only 129 supporting industries.
The growing demand for wider exhibition areas for APM and the supporting industries drive the expansion of the exhibition area year after year. In its initial exhibition at the JIExpo Kemayoran which has an area of 100,000 square meters, IIMS 2009 occupied land of 40,410 square meters. The next year, the exhibition area increased to 57,830 square meters and in 2011, it went up again reaching 63,654 square meters. Last year, IIMS took an exhibition area of 70,550 square meters and this year, the auto show reached its biggest ever exhibition area totaling to 75,000 square meters.
Besides the exhibition as the main event, the committee also arranged various programs to support the exhibition such as Test Drive, Stunt Show, Gymkhana Race War, and many more. All of these supporting programs were conducted on in outdoor area which also requires more and more space. These factors pushes the committee to come up with breakthrough solutions to accommodate the growing needs.
In each and every IIMS, the APMs keep demonstrating their interest to have bigger exhibition areas that enable them to be more creative and innovative in showing the advancement of their products and technologies. For the record, this year alone, there are at least two participants that showed their innovations by taking up extra space, namely Honda and KIA.
Honda used the foyer of Hall D next to their booth to create Executive Lounge for their loyal customers; while KIA extended their booth to the outdoor area behind their booth and turned it into a replica of a mini town a la KIA called, the "KIA Town." Realizing these developments, the committee is determined to provide better and bigger exhibition areas for the organizing of IIMS 2014. The committee has begun the discourse to move the exhibition to a more qualified venue.
"The growing need for a larger area is one of our considerations in preparing ourselves to be able to meet market demand and finalizing our preparations to bring IIMS to occupy its new venue next year," said Abiyoso Wietono, Automotive Division Manager, Dyandra Promosindo. The new venue designed for IIMS is the Indonesia International Exhibition & Convention Center (IIECC), which is now already half way completed. Located at Serpong city, the IIECC occupied a land of up to 25 acres which is projected to be able to meet participants' demand.
Related to this, Abiyoso hopes the new location will make a better IIMS next year. "With the plan to move IIMS, we are optimistic that we will be able to meet the demands from Indonesia auto players because so far we have yet to be able to meet that demand," said Abiyoso.
IIMS 2013 Proves Its Promise The 21st Indonesia International Motor Show (IIMS) 2013 officially concluded last Saturday (28/09) night, though the exhibition was still open until Sunday (29/09). During the official Closing Ceremony, Johnny Darmawan, Chairman of IIMS 2013 Committee, expressed his apology for the limited exhibition area in this year's IIMS. On the other hand, he also expressed his joy to see that each and every year IIMS shows a significant advancement.
In this year's exhibition, every exhibitor displayed their latest technologies and latest models, from concept cars to introducing new cars through world premieres. These programs attracted the attention of regional and global auto players and officials from Europe, the U.S., Japan, Thailand, and others attending this year's exhibition.
Furthermore, the committee managed to book various positive achievements throughout the organizing of this year's exhibition. Based on the committee's record, the supporting programs and facilities provided by the committee were able to offer comfort to visitors though some areas still requires further improvements. Despite the obstacles faced, IIMS 2013 managed to attract huge public attention as seen from the number of visitors.
The total number of IIMS visitors until the last day of exhibition reached 373,661 people. Meanwhile, though transactions are not the main target of the exhibition, 19,367 vehicles were sold throughout this year's exhibition with transaction value of IDR 4,937,649,709,992 - or US$ 431,899,663.24 with current exchange rate. The significant transactions recorded in this year's exhibition showed that in terms of business, public purchasing power remain in positive level thus indicating that the country's automotive industry is still growing and more promising.
"These achievements indicate that IIMS managed to strengthen its position as the most qualified event for the country's automotive industry players. The increasing number of visitors each and every year also shows the growing public interest toward quality automotive products to support their daily activities. The recorded transaction value is also increasing, though as I have repeatedly mentioned, transactions are not the main objective of this auto exhibition,' said Chairman of IIMS 2013 Committee, Johnny Darmawan.
In line with Abiyoso's view, Johnny said next year the committee will do their best to provide better programs and bigger space to enable APMs to be more creative in demonstrating their technologies, products, and innovations in Indonesia International Motor Show 2014. "This year's IIMS is proud, but we are determined to organize a better and bigger show next year," said Johnny.
