Health, Safety and Environment Issues Go Under the Spotlight at OSEA2010 International Conference

SINGAPORE, Oct 04, 2010 - (ACN Newswire) - Oil and gas exploration and production operations push the boundaries of modern engineering and the consequences of failure have become all too apparent in recent months. The extensive damage from a spate of oil and gas incidents has left the global oil and gas community pondering the costs to the environment and economy as well as the eventual business interruption and financial burden.

The losses incurred to a company as a consequence of such severe accidents is massive - loss of lives, time, assets and reputation. A business' sustainability and, in many cases, its license and ability to operate are determined by its Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) commitment and policy. The Inaugural OSEA2010 Leaders' Summit will focus heavily on how these pressing concerns will impact oil and gas companies and reveal strategies to overcome challenges in integrating effective HSE practices.

"The causes of major accidents are remarkably similar and it is apparent that companies do not learn the lessons of earlier disasters. The plenary keynote at the OSEA2010 Leaders' Summit will explore the reasons for this failure; focusing on the company's organisational structure and its incentive systems," said Professor Andrew Hopkins of the Australian National University, the keynote speaker at the OSEA2010 Leaders' Summit.

The Leaders' Summit is introduced this year to provide a knowledge sharing and networking platform for leading personalities in business, research and government. It kicks off the OSEA2010 International Conference which returns from 30 November to 3 December at Suntec Singapore.

Strategic Insights Into Exploration, Production and Gas Technology

Worldwide demand for energy is expected to surge substantially, prompting the need for more advanced and sophisticated exploration and production method, technology and processes. The U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) projects world oil consumption growth of 1.6 million barrels per day (bbl/d) in 2010. Coupled with the decline in available oil and gas resources in onshore areas, offshore exploration is set to increase substantially.

The array of conference tracks at OSEA2010 International Conference will bring interactive dialogue on issues across the oil and gas industry. Delegates will gain expertise and valuable insights on how to better manage various risks and challenges, and harness the potential in offshore exploration and production operations through topics like "Installation engineering of offshore structural systems", "Construction strategies for deepwater facilities", "A vehicle to create more value in deepwater development" and more.

The four-day OSEA2010 International Conference and Leaders' Summit will feature more than 45 prominent industry experts from the likes of Abu Dhabi Marine Operating Company (ADMA-OPCO), Bahrain Petroleum Company (BAPCO), Ebara, ExxonMobil, GL Global Denton, J. Ray McDermott, Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC) and more. Delegates can also look forward to the anticipated forecast on the prospects for the offshore industry worldwide and in Southeast Asia delivered by John Westwood, Chairman of Douglas-Westwood Ltd.

The OSEA2010 International Conference is held alongside the OSEA2010 exhibition, the largest oil and gas industry event in the Asia-Pacific region. The show will be the largest edition in its 34-year history and will feature 1,500 international exhibitors over 25,000 square metres at Suntec Singapore. Over 22,000 business leaders, industry professionals and government officials from 60 countries and regions are expected to participate in this event.
