The Hong Kong Institute of Directors Announces Winners of Directors Of The Year Awards 2016
HONG KONG, Dec 06, 2016 - (ACN Newswire) - The Hong Kong Institute of Directors ("HKIoD") announced and honoured winners of the Directors Of the Year Awards ("DYA") 2016 today at its Annual Dinner held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. "Corporate Sustainability - The Board's Crucial Role" is the theme of the Awards this year and the success stories of the winners make good examples for local organisations and can inspire their peers to help enhance the standard of corporate governance in Hong Kong.
The opening ceremony of the event was hosted by Mr Henry Lai, Chairman of HKIoD, with Professor K C Chan, Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury, as the Guest of Honour addressing participants.
Mr Henry Lai, Chairman of HKIoD, said, "Hong Kong has been in an envious position to draw investment captial through the propagation of corporate governance in its investment platform. It is of utmost importance for the business community of Hong Kong to preserve our city's favourable status as a leading financial hub. HKIoD has worked hard over the years at advocating, educating and promoting good corporate governance. Directors Of the Year Awards recognise directors who perform excellently in corporate governance. We are delighted to see the continual high quality of the winners. This reflects society's rising expectation and the growing awareness of corporate governance in different sectors."
Mr Carmelo Lee, Co-chairman of the Organising Committee of DYA 2016, said, "Hong Kong's business environment changes constantly at the impact of complex global happenings. Directors are required to lead their organisations in corporate sustainability. It is evident that the boards shoulder crucial responsibilities and have far-reaching influence in shaping the culture of a company in corporate governance, particularly driving ESG policies. Hats off from HKIoD to this year's award-winning directors, who have demonstrated good practices in this regard."
Mr William Lo, Co-Chairman of the Organising Committee of DYA 2016, said, "The most critical factor that can decide whether a corporation will see healthy and sustainable development is whether its directors are able to set up frameworks and put into practice of good corporate governance. To achieve this, directors are required to keep abreast of up-to-date knowledge which in turn makes continuing professional development essential. We are pleased that the winners this year have demonstrated exemplary practices."
Dr Carlye Tsui, CEO of HKIoD, said, "HKIoD has always stayed abreast of the global corporate governance development trends in education and training programmes. In almost 20 years since it was founded, the Institute has launched various types of programmes to directors from all sectors, including listed companies, private companies and non-profit-distributing organisatons. In complement to the Directors Of The Year Awards project, HKIoD will continue to nurture directors, encourage them to fulfill the responsibilities they are entrusted with and also to join us in promoting and enhancing the corporate governance standards in Hong Kong."
