MediaTek and PetroChina Head Seven Short Lists at the IR Magazine Awards - Greater China 2014
Companies lead award nominees despite appearing on only one short list between them last year

HONG KONG, Nov 11, 2014 - (ACN Newswire) - IR Magazine announces shortlisted nominees for the IR Magazine Awards - Greater China 2014.

- PetroChina and MediaTek to contest grand prix for large-cap companies
- Sinopec receives six award nominations
- Five short lists for Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC)
- Former top-ranked company China Telecom among companies with three nominations
- Winners to be announced on December 4 at awards ceremony in Hong Kong

The short lists for the upcoming IR Magazine Awards - Greater China 2014 are dominated by two companies that were largely absent from last year's nominations: PetroChina, which picked up one short list spot in 2013, and MediaTek, which did not feature on any, have each been nominated for seven awards this year.

PetroChina last won an IR Magazine Award in 2012, when the Beijing-based energy firm finished fourth in the Greater China Top 30 and was short-listed for eight awards. But 2014 marks the first time MediaTek, a Taiwanese semiconductor manufacturer that ranked joint 72nd last year, has appeared on the short lists.

Close behind these two comes Chinese energy company Sinopec with six nominations to its name. The firm went home with the award for best IR in the energy sector in 2013, and will hope to defend its title and contest several new ones, including the trophy for best investor relations by senior management in Greater China, for which its president Li Chunguang is nominated.

All three of the most-nominated companies will also compete for the grand prix for best overall investor relations at a large-cap company, along with Lenovo and TSMC.

Lenovo is one of a quartet of companies that includes China Everbright International, Sa Sa International and Anton Oilfield Services, which have all been short-listed four times. The latter three companies will also contend for the grand prix for best overall investor relations at a small or mid-cap company, along with transport firm Pacific Basin Shipping, which ranked 19th overall last year.

TSMC, meanwhile, has five award nominations in 2014, including for best IR by a Taiwanese company and best use of technology. There's also an opportunity for the technology firm's head of IR, Elizabeth Sun, to defend her title as the best IRO in Taiwan.

China Telecom, the only company to outperform TSMC in 2013 and 2012, is one of several companies to pick up three nominations. The company has ranked top of both the Greater China Top 30 and the Pan-Asia Top 50 for the past two years, and in 2013 won six of the 10 awards it was nominated for.

The IR Magazine Awards - Greater China 2014 are decided solely by an independent survey of investors and analysts, all of whom are located in the region. Just as in IR Magazine's other awards in Europe and the Americas, investors and analysts are asked to vote for their favorite company in each awards category. This year, 402 respondents took part in the survey. The four or five companies with the most votes in each category make the short list and the company with the most votes wins the award.

Votes for the awards also determine the IR Magazine Greater China Top 30, the ranking of the best companies for IR in the region. The votes in each award category are added together and the company with the most votes is declared the top-ranked company in the area.

The latest rankings will be revealed in the IR Magazine Investor Perception Study - Asia 2014/2015, which will be published soon after the IR Magazine Awards & Conference - Greater China 2014 on December 4.

Strategic Public Relations Group is proud to be the Official Public Relations Partner for the IR Magazine Awards & Conference - Greater China 2014.
