Russia's VimpelCom Selects NEC iPASOLINK to Transform its Mobile Transport Network
- Deployments in Volga, Central and North-West Russia to support capacity and service requirements of Vimpelcom -
TOKYO, Feb 14, 2011 - (ACN Newswire) - NEC Corporation (NEC; TSE: 6701) announced today CJSC NEC Neva Communications Systems (NEC Neva), a subsidiary of NEC in Russia, has agreed with VimpelCom Ltd. (Headquarters: Netherlands, Amsterdam, President: Alexander Izosimov) to deploy the NEC iPASOLINK platform for the transformation of its backhaul mobile transport network. The NEC iPASOLINK will provide VimpelCom with an ultra-flexible mobile transport network agile enough to evolve to next-generation IP-based networks, including LTE backhaul, while meeting the current capacity and service demands of Beeline, its mobile company brand.
VimpelCom will deploy the NEC iPASOLINK in the Volga, central and North-West regions of Russia. The NEC iPASOLINK gives operators such as VimpelCom the agility to roll out capacity and services fast, in step with demand and at low cost.

The NEC iPASOLINK Series is a converged flexible platform designed to meet the capacity, topology and intelligence requirements for the transformation of both fixed and mobile networks to the next generation, including 4G LTE. The modular, flexible, all-in-one converged design of the NEC iPASOLINK incorporates packet, microwave and optical technologies. It ensures network operators can deploy high-performance, next-generation networks without incurring unnecessary costs.
NEC launched its PASOLINK business in the early 1980s. PASOLINK has been widely adopted as a microwave communications system between base stations, with shipments of more than 1.5 million units throughout 145 countries.
NEC will exhibit the iPASOLINK Series at the Mobile World Congress 2011 at Stand No 8A125, Hall 8. At the stand, visitors can learn about NEC's latest portfolio developments for Backhaul applications.
